Frank Ruggerie, proprietor of Colerain Bowl in Cincinnati, Ohio, has been a long term client of the kaploe marketing group™ and Ruggerie’s and Colerain’s success speaks volumes about their work ethic and approach to the bowling business. Ruggerie, 52, is a third generation proprietor who entered the family business in the late 1970’s. “After a month of helping out my father, I was hooked,” recalled Ruggerie. Ruggerie enjoys the bowling business immensely. “The thing about running a small business that I liked was the freedom to make the decisions and choices that determined the success of the business,” Ruggerie said. “Previously, in the military and large corporate environments, I had worked hard, but it was always implementing someone else's strategies. It has to be a lot more fun to be a commanding general or CEO than a middle manager; and when I started in this business, my job description was more like the general's... except when the urinals stopped up.” Like many other proprietors, Ruggerie has come to appreciate the role marketing plays in driving his business. “Marketing was critical 50 years ago and remains important to market yourself, as 'Larry the bowling center guy', and create a presence for your business in the community. But today, marketing has the potential to be far more sophisticated and effective. The implementation of BPAA's bowler trac data base is going to offer small businesses very powerful tools to identify and develop customers,” Ruggerie commented.
