Hope you had a good weekend both personally and professionally. Were your programs and promotions successful? Did they meet the goals you set? Were they on budget?
Right now is a good time to sit down with your staff and examine
- What your promotion(s) did right
- What your promotion(s) did wrong
- How can you improve these programs next year
Write down, file the results and next year, right about September 15th, and mark your calendar for “Thanksgiving review meeting”
But let me tell you a quick story about today.
Today I stopped into see a client just to find out how he is doing and while I was there he was hosting an early Holiday party. Everything was going great until I asked him if he was able to get everyone’s name. “No, I don’t have the time for that.”
What? what?” I said. “You have a hundred people here all spending money, all professional people that must belong to lots of other organizations. You’re leaving lots of money on the table, man!” Before he could say anything, I ran into his office, fired up his computer and printed out a card that read:
YOU Could Win $100, $50 or $25 in FREE Bowling.
Yes, I want a chance to be a winner. Are you interested in information about bowling fund raisers? Yes ___
Are you interested in team building bowling events? Yes ___
So I printed these two up and then cut them. Nothing fancy. Just did it.
I said to my client, “Jimmy, I’m going lane to lane to hand these out. Give me some pencils and pens”. I stuffed a bunch in my shirt pocket and took off, just as I heard him say, “Oh boy, you’re going to piss them off and they’ll be angry at me. Damn!”
Well, I didn’t upset anyone. I just asked if they would like to win $100 bucks of FREE bowling when everyone was having fun; so I guess my timing was pretty good.
After about a half hour to 45 minutes I went back and collected 81 completed cards from 102 people; 7 people wanted information about bowling fund raisers and 5 people asked about team building bowling events.
Now if you value each of those puppies at about $500 in revenue that’s $6,000 coming back in the door…if they all come to fruition. And if only half do, that’s $3,000 he didn’t have.
Not to mention getting more bowling revenue, more shoe rental income and more food and beverage income from a percentage of these casual bowlers who will come back.
It was all good. I was happy. Jimmy was happy and the Lady who won the $100 of FREE bowling was really happy. She jumped up and down and was grinning from ear to ear. I’ve seen winning do that to people before.
You can do the same thing and create a memorable experience for your customers and future revenue for you if you have about 10 minutes
Got 10 minutes?
