I haven’t met very many people who love to sell, but when I do I watch, listen and learn and here’s what I have learned about selling.
There are only three sales techniques. That’s it. Three.
- The first is what every sales trainers, sales manager and sales VP teaches you. That is to sell by description. Describe the features. Then describe the benefits. Then describe the prospects objections and overcome these objections with the benefits and how much better their life, their business, their family, their kids, their dog or whatever will be with our product.
- The second is what the internet and content marketers have taught us, “tell a story.” Everybody wants to hear a good story they can relate to. Tell stories about another prospect before he or she bought the product or service you are selling and then tell a story about how great that person felt after they bought your product or service.
- By far the most overlooked way to sell and also the most obvious is to be quiet and listen. Listen before pitching. Listen to what people want. Listen to their frustrations, stories, challenges and desires. Then sell them what they want, not what you want. You’ll have more friends, more people who trust you in the future and you will always have more sales
It ain’t that hard.
