Eyes Wide Shut

“That won’t work”, said Manager X at one recent client meeting.  “People won’t like it.”

I subtlety reminded him of the old adage that we “aren’t trying to please everybody”.

It’s impossible.

“Everybody”, in today’s marketing, is “nobody”.

Trying to please everybody or assuming that it will disappoint someone will happen, And that is a  fact.

So what do you do?

The trick is to use that knowledge to do better work for those you can please. 

Who is it you are trying to please?

Do you know your target audience “cold” not just their age and income, but their other favorite activities; why they buy bowling; when they are most likely to visit you and what are their favorite communication channels to get information?

Do you check your “Google analytics” and see who opened your emails, but didn’t go to your site.  Go back to them and “remarket” a special offer.

Do you go back to those people who went to your landing page and then “remarket” to them?  They’re the ones who are VERY interested, but for some reason just didn’t pull the trigger. THEY are your hot prospects.

If they opened your email or went to your landing page or site, they are telling you they have a “want to buy” prospect” mindset for your product, but your offer just wasn’t strong enough to tip the scales in your favor. Go back to them immediately!

Do you really, really know WHO you are trying to please?

Please write a paragraph on who this prospect is. Write everything you know about him or her.

If you are setting up a program or planning to introduce a new product, do it now. Right now.
