I was looking for a quote, something short and easy to read to start off the New Year. This past year I started a few new ventures. I guess the serial entrepreneur part of my brain got the better of me.
I was partially successful on two of them, went into the toilet on the third, but hit a good one as the year ended. As I rounded 2nd base on this particular endeavor, an overwhelming sense of achievement washed over me and I realized, more than ever, how damn hard it is to launch, especially in our business where launching takes mega bucks and lots of signatures/sign offs and saying prayers.
I was reminded of Lee Iacocca and his bet on the Mustang, the Plymouth Caravan and his K Cars. All successes in their own right. But he failed too. The Chrysler Cordoba, the Maserati engine Chrysler K car and the Viper, beautiful but poor quality build and parts that just didn’t fit…but to drive it was to love it.
So this year promise yourself to go out there and try new things. Don’t let anyone discourage you if it is your dream.
Here is what I want to leave you with. It’s my favorite quote by Mark Cuban:
“I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter how many times you failed. You only have to be right once.”
–Mark Cuban
