According to one noted marketing guru: “In the last forty years, the amount of promotion has gone up exponentially. At the same time, the success of promoted content, products and services has not increased at all.”
Why Do You Think That Is?
Is it because we send out too much communication?
Is it because we are on every available social media platform and listen to “supposed marketing gurus” that this is “how its supposed to be done.”
Is it because we create so much content that the real important stuff gets lost in cyberspace?
Is it because when people first check their email, they are FIRST looking at what to delete, not to read?
Is it because we think just one more ad, one more Facebook post or just one more blog will give us the breakthrough we are looking for?
Is it because we spam people and use up the trust we might have built?
Accordingly, maybe we are “concentrating too much on the promo and not enough on creating something that those you serve want to tell others about.”
“When other people promote us, it’s not promotion and spam. Rather it’s because we shared important information that we are passionate about and we think we are being generous and helpful to the community we serve.” – Seth Godin
